Our Beliefs

What we believe at Grace City about Jesus, the Bible, and the Church

  • We believe the Holy Spirit of God inspired and guided the authors of Scripture to reveal His truth, His will and His counsel to all believers, of all times, including us today.

As it is authored by God, the Bible is without error and defect in its’ wisdom and authority. We, as individuals and as communities of faith, are led by the Holy Spirit to submit to the authority of Scripture and apply the wisdom of Scripture to our daily life. It is through God’s word that we are led to salvation in Christ guided to live our lives for Christ and His purposes.

  • There is one living and true God who eternally exists as three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

We believe these three are one God, and each possess the full nature, attributes and perfections of deity. He is infinite in holiness, all powerful and all knowing.

  • God as Father eternally reigns with providential care over His universe, His creatures for the purposes of His grace.

God the Father God as Father eternally reigns with providential care over His universe, His creatures for the purposes of His grace. He is all-powerful, all-knowing, all-loving, and all-wise. God is Father in truth to those who become children of God through faith in Jesus Christ. He is fatherly in His attitude toward all men.

  • Jesus is the eternal Son of God.

God the Son He was conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. Jesus perfectly revealed and did the will of God, taking upon Himself human nature with its demands and necessities and identifying Himself completely with mankind yet without sin. Through His death on the cross, He made provision for the redemption of men from sin. He was raised from the dead with a glorified body, ascended into heaven and is now exalted at the right hand of God. He will return to Earth one day to reign as King.

  • The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God, fully divine.

He enables humanity to understand their need for Jesus. God the Spirit The Holy Spirit cultivates Christian character, comforts believers and bestows the spiritual gifts by which they serve God through His church. His presence in the Christian is the guarantee that God will bring the believer into the fullness of the stature of Christ. He enlightens and empowers the believer and the church in worship, evangelism and service.

  • Mankind was created by God in His own image for the purpose of bringing glory to God.

However, man sinned, which resulted in both physical and spiritual death, which is separation from God. This spiritual death has been transmitted to the entire human race (except for Christ) with the result that every person is born into the world with a sinful nature that rebels against God and is under His condemnation.

Outside of trusting Jesus for salvation, man’s sin nature prevents him from having a relationship with God. Only the grace of God can bring man into His holy fellowship and enable man to fulfill the creative purpose of glorifying God.

    Genesis 1:26-30; 2:5, 7, 18-22; 3; 9:6 / Isaiah 43:7 / Psalms 1; 8:3-6; 32:1-5; 51:5 / Isaiah 6:5 / Jeremiah 17:5 / Matthew 16:26 / Acts 17:26-31 / Romans 1:19-32; 3:10-18, 23; 5:6, 12, 19; 6:6-7; 7:14-25; 8:14-18, 29 / First Corinthians 1:21-31; 15:19, 21-22 / Ephesians 2:1-22 / Colossians 1:21-22; 3:9-11

  • Due to man’s sin nature, he is eternally separated from God and dependent on God for salvation from his sins.

No amount of good works will enable man to have a saving relationship with God. Salvation is available through faith alone based solely on the death of Jesus Christ as the substitute for their sin. Christ’s resurrection demonstrated God’s full acceptance of His death as payment for sin and foreshadows the final resurrection of all believers. All who are born of the Spirit through faith in Christ can have assurance of salvation and are eternally secure in Christ.

    Acts 2:21; 4:12 / Romans 3:23; 5:12, 19; 6:23 / Galatians 3:13, 22 / Ephesians 2:1-3 / Romans 5:1 / First John 5:13 / John 10:27-29

  • The Church is the body of Christ.

The universal church consists of all who have repented of sin, trust Christ as their Savior, and follow Jesus as He is the Head of the Church.

The local church is an autonomous, geographically-local congregation of baptized believers who gather for worship, spiritual growth, service, fellowship and observance of the ordinances of baptism and the Lord’s Supper.

The church functions under the Lordship of Jesus Christ and is governed by pastors/elders. It grows in maturity as each member serves the body using the spiritual gifts given to them by the Holy Spirit. Christ has commissioned the church and its individual members to spread the Gospel throughout the world.

    Matthew 16:15-19; 18:15-20 / Acts 2:41-42, 47; 5:11-14; 6:3-6; 13:1-3; 14:23, 27; 15:1-30; 16:5; 20:28 / Romans 1:7 / First Corinthians 1:2; 3:16; 5:4-5; 7:17; 9:13-14; 12 / Ephesians 1:22-23; 2:19-22; 3:8-11, 21; 5:22-32 / Colossians 1:18 / Titus 1:5-9 / Hebrews 11:39-40 / First Peter 5:1-4

  • We believe that the ordinances of baptism and the Communion are ordained by the Lord Jesus himself.

All who have received Christ as Savior should be baptized by immersion as a symbolic testimony to their participation in the death and resurrection of Christ. Likewise, believers should regularly partake in the Communion as a symbolic remembrance of Christ’s death and as a testimony of our fellowship with Him and our unity as the body of Christ.

    Matthew 28:18-20 / Acts 2:41-42 / First Corinthians 11:23-26 Item description

  • We believe, at God’s appointed time, Jesus Christ will return personally and visibly to Earth to establish His kingdom.

We believe in the bodily resurrection of both believers and unbelievers. At the final judgment unbelievers will be separated into everlasting punishment and believers will live in God’s presence, worshiping Him forever.
